Biography I am a freelance illustrator and author, specialising in earth sciences, technology, astronomy and space. I have a degree in astronomy from University College London (UCL), and a PhD in astrophysics from the Mullard Space Science Laboratory. After I finished my PhD, I did three years of research at Sussex University, in the UK, specialising in close binary stars called cataclysmic binaries. But by the time I reached the end of my contract, it had become clear that professional astronomy was not for me, and I decided on a career change. Now, self trained in illustration, I run a company called Mark Garlick Words and Pictures Ltd. Since 1996 I have written and illustrated five of my own books, and my images have appeared in their hundreds in other books, publications and in advertising. I welcome your commissions. Also worth a mention... I am an elected Fellow of the International Association of Astronomical Artists (IAAA), which strives to popularise the genre. |
